Biography

living in Berlin. born in Zweibrücken/Palatinat. 1983-85 drummer in the Nasse Hunde punk band. 1985-91 assistant to the photographers Dieter Blum, Michael Leis, Werner Janda. 1991-01 living in Paris, working as a free-lance photographer; from 1995 non-commissioned works and starting to also work with video and film; journeys to Iraq and Northern India. first works on landscape and nature during a residency in Australia. from 1999 long-term project on European landscapes. 2001-10 living in Munich. 2006-08 “Eclipse” series on historical and mythological landscapes in the Near East, journeys to Egypt, Israel, Palestine, Syria and Turkey. 2008/10 residencies in Cairo and Damascus for new works. from 2011 living in Berlin; project on (post-) colonialism in Central Africa, based on research of historical material, journeys to Cameroon, Tchad and the Kongo Region. 2017 new works on a neighbourhood in relation to slavery and colonial history in Lagos/Nigeria. 2018 Tarabya (German Cultural Academy Istanbul) stipend and residency, new longterm project in Turkey. 2019-20 film project “The Building”; research and project “Re-Visiting Orientalism”, journeys to the Caucasus, Arabian Gulf and Tunesia. prolongation of the Tarabya stipend and residency in Istanbul. 2021 Research trips to Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkey.
