Limbo comes from the latin word Limbus = border. In Christian theology it defines since circa 400 A.D. the place where innocent souls exist temporarily until they can enter heaven. Since the 16th century = Any in-between place, state or condition of neglect or oblivion which results in an unresolved status, delay or deadlock.
The series of images was created in different locations, cities and geopolitical conditions. From Jerusalem, via Damascus, to central Spain, Munich, Paris and Berlin. The pictures show enigmatic scenes, often with doors or passages that give an uncanny feeling of uncertainty. This turns these places into a projection surface for hopes, fears and expectations. The viewer's point of view is the space in between. Through this universal symbolism, the place is on the one hand relieved of its time and geography, on the other hand there is details or references to concrete political and social conditions. It is about the picture behind the picture and the images are aesthetically condensed to refer all the more to the state of a society.
